FISCAL YEAR 2007-2008:

Question/Comment:   Wow ... great job on the April 2008 Update!  I especially like the "new acquisitions list" using the covers of the books.  It puts a nice emphasis on the collection.
Reply (by Dorothy H. Maroff):   Thank you. ... They do help liven up the pages.

FISCAL YEAR 2004-2005:

All of the following questions, comments and replies were posted between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005.

Question/Comment:   Love to have nice people @ the MSASS Library.
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   Thank you for the compliment.

Question/Comment:   Could we have evening library hours during mid-terms & finals? (11-12 PM?)
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   As you may be aware the Kelvin Smith Library is open 24/7 until the end of the academic year. See the Library web site for more information regarding the hours and parking. The Harris staff is just not able to handle the additional hours.

Question/Comment:    [Need] Easier way to get to library/resources/resources  [&]  forms are hard to find (ILLIAD requests, etc.)
Reply:   Thank you for your comments about our website. Our website is currently a "work-in-progress." With the assistance of individuals such as you, we are identifying areas that need to be re-worked and updated. One of the items I have just completed working on is a "forms" page for each section of our site to make the forms easy to find. These are now available for your use.

As for needing an easier way to get to the library resources I'm not sure which resources you were trying to find. If you can tell us the specific resource you were looking for (such as "the list of journals at Harris Library" or "the online catalog" or "the list of research databases") and perhaps where you would expect to find a link to it, we will see what we can do. Thank you for taking the time to write to us. [Reply by Dorothy H. Maroff, Webmaster.]

Question/Comment:   Why aren't there more outlets for laptops in the library?
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   By January [2005] we hope to have all of the carrels in the MCNPO Reading Room wired for laptops. It will still be a quiet study area so I am trusting that this "mixed use" will work.

In addition, there is the option to plug your laptop in the area over the lower level copy machine. It currently has three or four PC's there which don't work very well. We will be opening room for at least two laptops there.

Finally, for right now, there is one outlet in the MCNPO Reading Room that can be used. Feel free to take advantage of it. Please remember, it is a quiet study/reading area.

Question/Comment:   There were no librarians over the weekend to help me.
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   There are no librarians on Saturdays. We use student coverage on that day and they provide only limited assistance. When there is a question that you need help with you can leave your name and telephone number with the Circulation Desk assistants and they will make sure your request is given to a librarian who will call you back, usually the next day.

On Sundays, we have a librarian scheduled from Noon to 7 PM. If the librarian is out ill and there is no replacement leave your name and telephone number at the Circulation Desk. The desk staff will try to contact someone if your request is urgent. If it can wait until Monday, someone will call you to assist you then.

If the librarian is not at the Reference Desk but in the building the Circulation staff will track the librarian down for you and let you know when the librarian will be available.

You always have the option of sending your request to us via e-mail ( harrisref@case.edu ) in advance of when you need the information. E-mail questions are answered within 24 hours of receipt.

Question/Comment:   Librarians were helpful over the weekend.
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   Thank you.

Question/Comment:    It is unbelievable to me that the most recent copies of Children and schools is (sic) not available in November 2003….
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   The bindery shipment went out on November 17. The journal in question is also available as full text from Academic Search Premiere [in the Research Databases] (except for issue numbers 3 and 4 as of 11/18/03).

Please remember, check the online catalog for journal holdings to determine the status of a journal. In this case, the entire journal was in "bind prep" since late October. If a journal is in "bind prep", the circulation staff can pull the issue for you. If you need to use the journal for an extended period, we will hold that journal from bindery shipment upon request. Finally, InterLibrary Loan requests can be made in a situation like this and we will expedite your request and try to turn it around as quickly as we can.

Question/Comment:   Please clean the computer keyboards there (sic) filthy.
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   We started this task as soon we saw your comment. Keyboard and computer cleaning will be a weekly task for our Lab Technicians and Circulation Assistants. Thanks for keeping us alerted to the details.

Question/Comment:    Please consider getting a copier with a document feeder that makes more than one copy at a time... !!!
Reply (by Art Biagianti):   Our copier, as with all the other copiers in the libraries on campus, are designed to save the backs/spines of bound volumes. These copiers aren't configured with document feeders because the "book saver" and "feeder" functions, according to the Xerox representatives, are mutually exclusive. If there are enhancements by Xerox that would permit both functions we will be sure to investigate our options.

Question/Comment:    Thanks for being so helpful on the phone yesterday. Love your library!
Reply (by Art Biagianti):    Thank you, compliments are always nice to receive.

Question/Comment:    Please keep the noise level down in the library. The library should be a quiet place to study. Yet I often hear people speaking very loudly (as if they were outside).
Reply (by Art Biagianti):    Yes, noise is a problem in our library and I agree with you about keeping the noise level down. I have asked that signs be posted in the library and I will encourage the Library staff to monitor the noise levels to attempt to keep them under control.
